Film Noir Hudson

Attention to the oil tanks that once graced Hudson's waterfront cannot fail to remind people of the 1959 film Odds Against Tomorrow, which was filmed primarily in Hudson and climaxes with a shootout between the characters played by Robert Ryan and Harry Belafonte on the oil tanks down by the river. The gunfire sets the tanks on fire and causes a huge explosion. Remembering the film prompted Tom D'Onofrio to send Gossips these stills from the movie.

The tanks, which were erected on the waterfront in 1949, were removed in 1997, with funding provided through the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation Local Waterfront Revitalization Program.
