Tomorrow, October 2, at 7 p.m., there is a Safe Routes to School informational meeting at the Hudson Junior High School, 215 Harry Howard Avenue. The SRTS program promotes healthy, safe alternatives to riding the school bus or being driven to school. The informational meeting is being hosted by the Hudson City School District, the Town of Greenport, and the City of Hudson. More information about the program and the meeting is available at the City of Hudson website.

Related to this, at the last Common Council meeting, Bill Roehr of TGW Consultants, spoke briefly about a Department of Transportation grant program that supports the Safe Routes to School initiative. A plan exists, designed by DPW superintendent Rob Perry, to install sidewalks along Harry Howard Avenue to Montgomery C. Smith Intermediate School, the junior high school, and the high school, and HCSD, with the City of Hudson's support, will be seeking a grant to implement that plan.
