Hudson in Literature

Gossips has learned that The Spirit of the Place, a novel set in an only slightly fictionalized Hudson called "Columbia" in 1969, during the struggle to save the General Worth Hotel, was released earlier this month in paperback and in a Kindle edition. What's more, Gossips has gotten word that the book's author, Samuel Shem (a.k.a. Dr. Stephen Bergman), who nailed it when he characterized our "quirky" city as a "town of breakage," is planning a visit to Hudson, our fair city and his hometown, next month. He'll be at the Hudson Opera House on Saturday, January 26, at 2 p.m.
