No Frackin' Way

At its informal meeting on December 10, the Common Council introduced a local law amending the city code to "ban oil, gas and solution mining or drilling in the City of Hudson and for other purposes." The principal target of the ban is waste from hydraulic fracturing, and the legislative intent is described in this way:
It is the intent of the Common Council to amend the Hudson City Code to ban oil, gas and solution mining and drilling activities in the City of Hudson and to prohibit the City from accepting any wastes or other byproducts generated by this industry at the City's waste water treatment plant or to allow the dispersal of any de-icing agents or other substances containing any wastes or other by product of oil, gas or solution mining and drilling activities on any roadways or highways with in the City of Hudson.
On Tuesday, December 18, the Council will consider moving this legislation forward.
