In Today's Register Star

John Mason has a report on the City's efforts to minimize or eliminate truck traffic through the city: "City seeks $50K grant for truck route study." Nothing new here, except Mason does report on a meeting that Hudson mayor Bill Hallenbeck and Common Council president Don Moore had with Greenport town supervisor John Porreca, which Moore described as "good" and Porreca characterized as "'embryo' stage."

There is also an item about the second public hearing on the subject of this year's Community Development Block Grant application: "City's $400K grant public hearing set for Thursday." It is at this second hearing that the folks from TGW Consulting (a.k.a. The Grant Writers) explain the project they have decided to pursue, which appears to be housing rehabilitation on Columbia Street between Fourth and Seventh streets. The announcement neglects to indicate on which Thursday the hearing will take place. It is not this Thursday, which of course is the Fourth of July, but next Thursday, July 11.

  1. I hope "decent and affordable" doesn't mean floor-to-ceiling glass in kitchens for modest women who prefer not to be scene in public with their hair uncovered.
