Don't Forget to Vote

The polls are open from noon to 9 p.m. today for the Hudson City School District election. The polling place for Hudson is the John L. Edwards Primary School, at State and Carroll streets, just behind the Hudson Area Library.

Four candidates are running for three vacant seats on the Board of Education: Derrick Smart, Art Cincotti, Maria McLaughlin, and David Kisselburgh. For information about the candidates, see the article in today's Register-Star: "Four vie for three Hudson BOE seats."

Voters are also asked to approve the 2014-2015 budget for the Hudson City School District, which at $45.2 million is a 4.27 percent increase over the current year. The amount to be raised by local property taxes is $21.1 million, which represents a 2.17 percent increase.

Also on the ballot is the sale of the Greenport School for $400,000 to Mark Salomon and John Perri of JMS Construction Services, who plan to turn the property into an apartment complex.
