Oil on the Hudson

Earlier today, Department of Environment Conservation commissioner Joe Martens announced proposed changes to update and consolidate regulations for Petroleum Bulk Storage (PBS) and Chemical Bulk Storage (CBS). The regulations relate to the storage of crude oil at the Port of Albany and its transfer to barges and tankers to travel down the Hudson River.

To help people understand the proposed regulations, there is a live webinar scheduled for Tuesday, August 26, from 10 a.m. to noon. The DEC website provides instructions on how to register and participate in the webinar. The website also gives information about public information meetings to take place in Albany (September 4), Brooklyn (September 9), and Rochester (September 11).

There is a ninety-day public comment period for these proposed changes, which ends on November 4, 2014. Written comments may be submitted online or mailed to Mr. Russ Brauksieck, New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, Division of Environmental Remediation, 625 Broadway, Albany, NY 12233-7020.
