An Event for Fur and Feathers

The Feast of St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals and the environment, is on October 4. As is the tradition in Hudson, on the Saturday closest to the feast day of St. Francis, pets gather with their humans at Christ Church Episcopal, 431 Union Street, to be blessed. This year, the Blessing of the Animals takes place on Saturday, October 3, at 10 a.m.

My beloved and long-lived William was a regular at the blessing. The picture below shows William in 2013, the last year he was able to appear in the flesh to receive his blessing. (Last year, Mother Eileen blessed a picture of William, who was then too old and frail to make it to the church.) Joey and I plan to be there on Saturday, provided he doesn't disgrace himself with an uncalled for display of fierce, defensive barking at the other creatures who have come to be blessed.
