Remembering the 1960s

In observance of Martin Luther King Day, the Hudson Democrats are offering a free screening of the film Selma, at 3 p.m. on Monday, January 18, at Time and Space Limited, 434 Columbia Street.

  1. We can only hope that with the airing of this film, the Hudson Democrats will agree to be of one mind on the issue of One Person One Vote.

    Last year, a major obstacle to applying the principle in Hudson was a voting block within the Common Council - a block composed primarily of people of color.

    The history provided at the following website, "One Person One Vote," may help these individuals understand the systemic imbalances which led to the events in Selma in 1965.

    That this story and its lessons are still so poorly understood by those who benefited most directly from Selma is nothing less than tragic.
