New York and the Nation

There are two items of interest in the news beyond Hudson.

Yesterday, while speaking at Abyssinian Baptist Church in Harlem, Governor Andrew Cuomo announced that he was "ordering the State Police to put together a special unit to address the explosion of hate crimes in our state" following the election of Donald Trump: "The Fight Begins: New York Gov. Cuomo Orders Creation of Special Unit for Hate Crimes."

Yesterday, too, Crain's reported that Republicans in Washington are pushing to eliminate a provision that allows taxpayers to deduct their city and state income tax payments from their federal income tax bills: "Ryan--and Trump's?--tax plan could hurt New Yorkers."
