Escarpment Update

It seems the application of the "tinted and sculpted sprayed concrete" has begun. Take a look at the rock face at the far left in the picture below and decide for yourself if it looks like the natural Ordovician shale it's meant to replicate.

Still to come is the "installation of vine like planted material" along the top of the rock face, reminding us that Frank Lloyd Wright once observed, in a lecture published in 1931, "The physician can bury his mistakes,--but the architect can only advise his client to plant vines." The same advice holds for the application of shotcrete.

  1. The project was permitted by our Albany overseers only days after public comments argued that the most obvious and least invasive of alternatives, "slide fences" already used everywhere else, were not among the alternatives presented to the public.

    The new Promenade is a testament to our lack of self-determination, and more evidence (if you still need it) of Hudson's inability to plan its own future.
