Mark Your Calendar, Arrange Your Schedule

There is so much of importance happening in the early days of next week that I'm not going wait until the weekend to inform (or remind) readers of what's happening.

On Monday, October 29, at 6:30 p.m., in the Community Room of the Hudson Area Library, 51 North Fifth Street, there is a meeting about plans for the new Ferry Street Bridge.

Mayor Rick Rector, DPW superintendent Rob Perry, and representatives of the engineering firm Creighton Manning will present an update on the various regulatory requirements pertaining to the bridge and a preliminary design. After the presentation, there will be opportunity for public comment.

On Tuesday, October 30, at 6:00 p.m., also in the Community Room at the library, Alderman Rich Volo (Fourth Ward) is holding an inaugural meeting of the Friends of the Hudson City Cemetery.

The meeting is for everyone interested in volunteering to help raise funds and to help do the work involved in documenting, preserving, and restoring Hudson's historic, National Register-eligible cemetery.

The meeting comes on the heels of Kelley Drahushuk's popular walking tour of the cemetery, Tales from Hudson's Crypts, which takes place on Sunday, October 29, starting at noon. The tour is limited to thirty, and registration is required Unfortunately, there is currently a waiting list to be part of the tour.

Also on Tuesday, October 30, from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m., at the same time as the cemetery meeting, there is a design charrette in the Community Room at Bliss Towers, 41 North Second Street.

While on the south side of town, plans for the redevelopment of the Kaz site are stalled indefinitely, on the north side of town, Hudson Housing Authority and PRC (Property Resources Corporation) are moving ahead with plans to build two new apartment buildings on the north side of State Street, across from Bliss Towers. The design charrette will address site plan and landscaping, building design, and floor plans. The flyer shown above seems to be the principle vehicle for notifying the public about this event.

  1. Ferry Street Bridge regulatory requirement #1: must be designed by Albany-based engineers limited to the cheapest materials available.
