Never Enough Trash Cans for Flag Day

Driven from our home yesterday by the fireworks, Joey and I decided to take our morning walk in riverfront park to check out the aftermath of the extravaganza.

The quantity of discarded styrofoam and single use plastic was stunning, as was the amount of trashed food.

We got to the park at around 8 a.m., and while we were there, a DPW crew arrived with trash pickers, bags, and the garbage truck to put things right.

  1. Will the DPW have the same challenge next weekend?

    1. Probably not. I'm convinced it's the five hour gap between when the parade ends and when the fireworks happen that encourages this.

  2. of course, there were ZERO opportunities to recycle anything. This City, ala DPW, is indifferent to the trash problem we are all responsible for. Hang around Hudson long enough and you'd be convinced there is no garbage issue on the planet or in NY State. Rob Perry at a recent DPW meeting: "When the price of recycling is the same as trash [which it essentially is now] we might as well make it all trash." He doesn't give a hoot. Those pictures are scary.
