Come November

Given Joe Ferris's victory in the Democratic primary yesterday, it appears there will be four candidates running for mayor in November:
    • Joe Ferris, Democrat
    • Lloyd Koedding, Republican
    • Kamal Johnson, Working Families Party
    • Peter Spear, Future Hudson
This morning, in a handwritten note addressed to Johnson and shared with Gossips, Koedding called on Johnson to bow out.

That's not likely to happen. On Facebook and Instagram this morning, Johnson shared this message with his supporters and followers:

In a comment on Gossips this morning, Alex Petraglia made the following prediction:
Calling it now so bookmark this post: Lloyd wins 30% in the general, the remaining 70% is split between Kamal, Joe, and Peter with none receiving more than 30%; Hudson Mayor Lloyd Koedding sworn in Jan 2026.

  1. It’s too bad Carole left out the weird “zombie arm rising from the ground” image that Mayor Johnson attached with his message. It only adds to the bizarre narrative surrounding this election. Also missing are the many comments from his confused followers regarding their disappointment about not being able to vote for him even though they have a Hudson address. Maybe this should be a required lesson in Hudson High School civics, if they still teach it: You vote accordingly with your municipality and its jurisdiction, and your zip code and mailing address is just how the Post Office routes your mail. The mayor of Hudson has no executive authority, management, nor budget or taxation over Greenport, Claverack, Stockport, etc. Those are managed by your town boards and supervisors, who are blessed and probably thankful they can do their business in peace while the simpletons of Columbia County stay laser focused on Hudson. Now if the citizens of Greenport would like to be annexed by Hudson, we can have that conversation. But be prepared for higher taxes, progressive policies, more bureaucracy and oversight of development, and sidewalks (which you will pay for).

The vote splitting is a serious scenario and it’s disappointing that Lloyd, a Republican, is doing what the local Democratic Party leadership should be doing.

    1. But remember the local Democratic Party is more or less led by Tom DePietro's wife Dorthy Heyl. She won't be asking Kamal to sit this one out for the advancement of the Democratic cause- but will be working tirelessly against Ferris. She is one of Kamal's biggest supporters and usually ensures the Hudson Democrats endorse members of the Working Family Party instead of actual Democrats who run for office.

    2. Yeah, the Hudson Dems won't do anything. Verity Smith, their chair, was collecting signatures for Kamal's reelection campaign. They hate everyone who won the Democratic primary yesterday. To me, the Hudson Dems are indistinguishable from the Working Families Party.

The county Dems might. But Dorothy has her fingers in there, too.

  2. So in sum- The Hudson City Democratic Committee will be endorsing and campaigning AGAINST all the Democratic candidates that won the Hudson Democratic Primary- working against the wishes of local Democratic voters. That's pretty messed up. Perhaps someone needs to throw some dog shit to draw attention to this lunacy.

    1. I agree, this would be insane; possibly fueled by ego and corruption.Ms. Heyl may be willing to work tirelessly against Ferris, but many of are ready to work with him or Peter to get the current "Mayor" our of Hudson government and have a more unified city. Does she really have any power after her husbands incredibly embarrassing loss?

  3. I wouldn't underestimate Dorthy Heyl's power. She has worked tirelessly to destroy the Hudson City Democratic Party and pushed astonishingly unqualified candidates into positions of power throughout city government- people she could manipulate and control. If you look closely it seems she is driven by a scorched earth ideology and had rather see Hudson burn than give up control. Note she controls who the Democrats give $ to support campaigns. Rumor has it that many left the committee when it came to light she was seemingly funneling $ to promote candidates that the committee had not voted to endorse. One has to wonder if she isn't just a mole from the Working Families Party using the Democratic brand to put WFP candidates into power. As things are playing out - the optics certainly support that notion.

    1. What is her motivation? Endgame?

    2. I suppose Dorthy Heyl's end game is for her and her husband Tom DePietro to rule Hudson politics as they have done over that past few years by any means necessary- which has generally been to sow chaos and division- and insert puppets throughout city government. But it's important to note that Tom did attempt to push a constituent down a flight of stairs and kill that person at a community meeting. Maybe they are just simply evil people- or maybe they are also getting kick backs from Galvan like Kamal seems to be. I guess we will never really know unless they would tell us. But- they don't address criticism and claim not to read blogs or engage with any type of social media. Pity.

    3. Wow! I don’t understand why he isn’t in jail? They seem to be really awful and miserable people. I googled a photo of her and the darkness is obvious, frightening! I’m read she sings in her church choir, hopefully she avoids the holy water because I think it may burn her. Hopefully, enough people are intelligent and strong enough not to allow these demons to influence their vote toward corruption and chaos. Thank you for your insight.

    4. Absolutely vile. Regardless of how one feels about local politics and politicians, drivel like this belongs scrawled on the interiors of public toilets. If you retain the capacity, Ms. Osterink, you ought to be ashamed of yourself.

  4. Is it too much to wish that Joe and Peter find a way to work together? I know, like, and trust them both. This is a 1+1=3 opportunity, but if they split the vote, we are doomed.

    1. I am hopeful if it comes down to it they will all work together to defeat the current "Mayor". Honesty over Corruption.
