A Look Inside Pocketbook Hudson

Last week, a publication called Hotel Management published an article about the restored and re-imagined Pocketbook Factory: "Adaptive reuse of historic mill nets new Pocketbook Hudson hotel."

The article about the new hotel and the photograph inspired me to share one of the pictures of the interior of the building in 1913, back when it was Union Mills. The caption accompanying the photograph reads in part: "The Finishing Room--Shows overcrowded conditions, great boxes of finished goods obstruct the aisles of exits."

Gossips
published this photograph and others showing the working conditions at the two Union Mills factories--the one on Washington Street and the one on Fulton Street (now Columbia Street)--in 2016: "Manufacturing in Hudson: 1913."

  1. The second complaint from hotel guests -- after their complaints about the lack of parking -- will be the intentionally LOUD cars and pickup trucks intentionally racing up and down North 6th from State to Washington. It's been worse than ever this year, and HPD does nothing about it.

  2. I've noticed the same thing with the loud trucks and cycles. It's worse this year than ever before. Are men having some kind of existential crisis?

    1. Peter, I hate to be a crank, but it comes with the territory. Somehow, on Gossips, I got demoted to "Pete" -- a name my mother ordered me to never let anyone call me -- and so, if Carole publishes this, it will be from Pete. I can live with that (and my poor dead mother will get used to it), but you have to be aware that I had a pretty good run on Gossips as "Peter" and know that in copyright and trademark law, you have to protect your name. I'm protecting mine by asking you to use your last name so I don't get blamed for all that radical and crazy stuff you say using the name "Peter." --peter meyer

  3. Loud , tricked out trucks seem to be the hottest thing on Warren Street. Extra manly to have a muffler you can set to super loud. One black pickup with lots of bright lights like to cruise Warren. I often wonder if the drivers are friends of the police?
