Today in Court

The legal proceeding over the invalidated petitions for a referendum to create a county executive position was back in court today. This evening, Sam Hodge, who initiated the lawsuit, reported on what happened. The following is quoted from his report:
Today, a court struck down our popular, grassroots referendum to create a full-time. elected County Executive. Not because it lacked merit. Not because it lacked public support. But because of procedural objections and non-substantive legal arguments.
The judge did not rule on the validity of the signatures or the form of the petition.
In doing so, the court sidestepped the heart of the matter: Republican officials used every trick in the book to keep this question off the ballot, and the court let them get away with it. . . .
The decision, handed down today by Judge Richard Mott, can be found here.

  2. Does Sam Hodge blog anywhere? There were less than a dozen residents in the courthouse during the proceedings...
