After announcing on Saturday that all programming, including that which took place at the Hudson Area Library, was canceled until further notice because there was a problem with the heating system at the Youth Center, the Youth Department posted this update on Facebook today. It seems the K-2 programming at the library has resumed.
Does anyone know the rationale behind the Youth Center maintaining independent IT/email servers and its own facilities management?
ReplyDeleteConsolidating these services under DPW and the City’s central IT vendor would create better economies of scale and improve oversight. Is there a specific reason they operate outside the standard City infrastructure?
This is not just snark. Remember when overdue utility invoices were misplaced in the personal email accounts of former staff. Past City leadership had a history of alleged impropriety with youth in after-school programs, so transparency should be the priority.
It seems odd that the IT servers protecting the Mayor and City CFO/Treasurer aren’t "good enough" for the Youth Center. It is equally strange that DPW, which maintains City Hall and arguably more sensitive HPD facilties, isn't trusted to keep an eye on the Youth Center building.
We have written to the Youth Center Director and Commissioner for an explanation and will continue to dig in. Every taxpayer dollar should be used in the most productive and transparent manner possible.
