On Friday, the Historic Preservation Commission granted a certificate of appropriateness for a new sign at 35 South Third Street.
What had been Wylde, a cafe, wine bar, and community space, is now GoodBoyBob, a specialty coffee roaster currently with two locations in California: Santa Monica and Manhattan Beach.
Next to a new boutique gift shop named Middle of Nowhere..

Bravo to the HPC for sticking to their rules so consistently and moving fast so that builders can build.
Someone should do a case study of the small scale entrepreneurship going on in Hudson vs. the big box corporate madness on Fairview Ave, in Greenport. Perhaps those of us who live in town should feel blessed that Greenport absorbs all that crap, leaving Hudson free to evolve in a different way.

DeleteDon’t forget the car wash… it’s like what Disney world is to Florida, in terms of repeat traffic that may otherwise not happen.

It’s a compact walkable downtown vs a two mile long stretch of anti-pedestrian (and really just anti-human), pro-automobile sprawl. It’s no wonder that the businesses in Greenport tend to be bigger box stores and car services (gas, repair shops, Pep Boys, Jiffy Lube, etc). It’s the difference between a commercial area built for people and a commercial area built for commerce.

Eldridge is around, but not for much longer. Her finishing the term would be a Houdini act indeed. There's a non-zero chance that either she or her son, or both preferably, will wind up in handcuffs before this year is over.
