Sometimes, when the audio on Zoom or Teams is particularly bad, I turn on the "live caption" function to help me decipher what's being said. I did so tonight for the meeting of the Hudson Housing Authority Board of Commissioners. The results were not helpful, but they certainly were entertaining. The live caption was less able to interpret what was being said than I was--hilariously so. Among the most memorable transcription fails was John Madeo of Mountco mentioning the "Zombie Board of Appeals" and HHA executive director Jeffrey Dodson making the statement, "I'm not taking sex meat." It's obvious that Madeo actually said "Zoning Board of Appeals." I have no idea what Dodson's actual words were. COPYRIGHT 2026 CAROLE OSTERINK

ReplyDeleteYou might remember council member Rony recently telling his fellow council members that a constituent of his told him that they could not understand the audio of the meetings and they had requested improvements. Rony suggested the city but a new microphone. I think that was late last year. More wasted words from another council member.
ReplyDeleteThe broadcast show is a riot, but nothing beats the live, in-studio audience version. Serious multi-media interactive conceptual comedy. What talent! I’ve been telling everyone the City Hall public meetings are the best live show in town, and they’re free. Non-stop hilarity!
ReplyDeleteMark.... we are thinking of calling it "Tuesday Night Lights".... since we don't have Friday Night Lights here anymore... and maybe if Hudson / Hudson Valley had a novel sports team to root for...
DeleteDysfunction and incompetence as comedy, no different than the TV series The Office was attempting. Except that our problems caused by the amateurs at City Hall are no longer laughing matters.
