The New York Post has an article today about a Target store opening in Bridgehampton: "Hamptons billionaire hub allows first-ever Target--with one crazy rule." What's interesting is not so much the text of the article as the montage of photographs that accompanies it. Look closely at the tote bag slung over the shoulder of the cyclist in the lower left corner. (Click on the image to enlarge if need be.)

This story seems significant until you learn the location was formerly a Kmart, occupying the exact Bridgehampton building from 1999-2024.
ReplyDeleteI had a customer tell me they learned about my shop because they saw one of my (brown paper) shopping bags on the train. I was puzzled because why would anyone have a shopping bag of mine while heading north on Amtrak? They clarified; train was the subway somewhere in Brooklyn.
ReplyDeleteGreenport maybe? We could use a little chic (actually, a lot). But seriously, Christie Brinkley can order all her bulk household needs online with free delivery. Many mere mortals do it every day. Surely, the merchandise within may be be upgraded as well. Let's compare, shall we? Have you seen the Dollar Generals in some towns? I just drove through New Britain CT and adjoining towns, a symbol of no love for the communities if there ever was. So, money still talks.
