Another Misleading Headline
Jamie Larson's account of the Valley Alliance's review of the LWRP and GEIS appears in today's Register-Star with the headline: "Valley Alliance: City should go back to the drawing board." Now that seems to be a rather reckless and extreme recommendation to make about a document the City has been working on for close to twenty years, and in fact it is not what the Valley Alliance recommended. Going back to the drawing board suggests starting over. What was actually said by Sam Pratt was, "If it's going to take another three to six months to get it right, let's do it." The recommendation for how the desired outcome can be accomplished was made by Peter Jung: "The quickest way to fix the document is to re-create the Citizens' Advisory Steering Committee."
Perhaps if Mr. Larson had paid attention to the presentation instead of talking and giggling with the young lady sitting next to him, he would have had a better grasp of what was actually being said by the presenters.
ReplyDeleteI don't giggle.
ReplyDeleteI'm OK with Jamie's article, it captures the essential flavor of the event. No grumbling (or giggling) from me....
ReplyDeleteClarification: I wasn't commenting about the article, which I agree, Peter, is perfectly fine. I was commenting about the headline, which I think is needlessly provocative, and about the Register-Star's practice of having someone other than the reporter--someone who seems not to read the articles very carefully--write the headlines.
ReplyDeleteIn general practice, reporters don't write headlines, editors do. And there, at the Reg, is the problem.
