We're Havin' a Heatwave . . .

which is just getting started and isn't expected to end until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 20. The current temperature is 94 degrees, and the humidity is 49 percent, which, according to the National Weather Service, makes it feel like it is 103 degrees.

For those without a cool place to escape the heat, Columbia County has established cooling centers at various locations throughout the county--all in libraries. The list below provides the locations and the hours. (Click on the image to enlarge.)

The cooling center for us in Hudson is the Hudson Area Library, 51 North Fifth Street. The library, however, will be closed on Wednesday, June 19, in observance of Juneteenth, so on that day only the cooling center in Hudson will be the Central Fire Station, 77 North Seventh Street, which will be open for that purpose from 9:30 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.

  1. Of course, there is no information about any cooling centers open or closed on the city's website, not even in the ANOUNCEMENTS section. We can't even rely on that basic information from city hall. There is, however, a Missing Person Advisory flashing at the top of the main page that has been doing so for at least 8 months. People could die from the heat today, but more important to city hall is the guy that has been missing for 8 months and is probably dead or just got the hell out of Hudson because he couldn't stand the bullshit anymore.
What do you want to bet that the mayor posted helpful information about the cooling center here in Hudson on his FB page. Does he manage the city or just collect his paycheck and feel good about himself? Does our so-called mayor know what the hell he is doing? When will he go missing from City Hall?

  2. Oh, I forgot! There is no information on the city website about the cooling center that will help people and might save a life or two, but there is a video on the main page featuring our so-called mayor. He thinks only of himself, it seems.
