News from the Street

A Gossips source reports today that people have started moving into 76 North Seventh Street, Hudson Depot Lofts.

So far, there's been no word about Lilly's Natural Pet Store, which, according to an Instagram post Gossips reported about in August, would be opening a second location in one of the commercial spaces in the building in September.

  1. The immediate question that comes to my mind is who these people are. Are those the people moving into the affordable apartments or is it the "market-rate" portion of the allotment?

    2. I agree. It’s none of Max’s business — he lives in Greenport.

I, on the other hand, live in Hudson and my taxes pay for the project. So I’d like to know and it is eminently my business.

    4. I'd like to provide some clarification here on why I asked that question.

Not too long ago two things happened: There were reports that, for some reason or the other, it didn't seem that the Depot Lofts were finding renters. The other thing was a meeting of the IDA where, if I recall correctly, Margaret Morris noted that Galvan seemed to be shifting away from advertising those units as affordable in a possible attempt to convert them to market rate - a clear violation of the PILOT agreement.

I believe this is of wider interest even if, as John pointed out, I live on the wrong side of 66 in Greenport. To wit, Kamal touts this as his big affordable-housing achievement. There are people, even amongst the unwashed masses in Greenport, who have their doubts.

    6. Mr. Hammond, you seem a bit touchy. No one cares who these folks are - Bob or Mary or whomever. Perhaps you’re a bit too literal? We care if the purpose for which our taxes are being spent is being met. And if you deny that’s the tax payers’ right to know, then you are either not a Hudson taxpayer or a fool.
