The Register-Star reports tonight the driver whose SUV jumped the curb and crashed into one of the wrought iron supports at the train station told police that his vehicle "accelerated on its own." The driver was taken to Columbia Memorial Hospital complaining of back pain: "Motorist drives into Hudson Amtrak train station structure."
This evening, Gossips went down to the station to assess the damage.
At 6:33 p.m., the Register-Star reported that "a repair crew from Amtrak was in route to the station to repair the damaged support, under the supervision of the building inspector." At 8:10 p.m, when Gossips took these pictures, there was no evidence of a repair crew or the building inspector.
The Hudson Amtrak station was completely restored in 1992--a project overseen by Mesick Cohen Baker Wilson, the architectural firm now working with Historic Hudson on the restoration of the Dr. Oliver Bronson House, Hudson's only National Historic Landmark. The train station is part of a National Register historic district and locally is an individually designated landmark, as well as being a contributing structure in the Union-Allen-South Front Street Historic District.

I suppose the good new is that it is a designated landmark. I hope that ensures that the station will be repaired properly.

There was an Amtrak "repair crew" (2 guys) inspecting the damage at 6:45 this morning.
