Hudson and Nantucket

There are many connections between Hudson and Nantucket. The majority of the Proprietors, the founders of Hudson, were from Nantucket. Like the founders of Hudson, the founders of Nantucket before them called themselves "Proprietors." There are houses in Hudson that reflect the late 18th-century vernacular architecture of Nantucket.

Yesterday, a reader alerted me to an article from the Nantucket Current that reports about something else Hudson and Nantucket have in common: "New Downtown Boutique Roller Rabbit Violates Nantucket's Chain Store Ban." What is happening in Nantucket is very similar to what happened here in Hudson two years ago, when Clic wanted to open its twelfth store at 314 Warren Street. Here in Hudson, the problem was solved when Clic agreed to give its Hudson store a different name and to alter the business plan. 

It appears that the strategies used to make Clic's twelfth location acceptable in Hudson are being used by Roller Rabbit to make its thirteenth location comply with Nantucket's formula business law.
