This morning, Governor Kathy Hochul announced that the mask mandate now in place in New York for indoor businesses will end tomorrow, but the mandate will continue for schools and other congregate settings.
Yesterday, a friend in Hong Kong sent me this headline from a local newspaper.
This is shameful. Politics and business are cozy bedfellows. I hope a few of us who choose to continue to wear masks won't encounter hostile glances or worse. Premature and disrespectful of the many to come who will be infected, possibly hospitalized and even succumb. As we've learned, the vaccinations are not fool proof. Take care out there.

The needs of the vulnerable need to be balanced with the needs of the not very vulnerable. As one of the more vulnerable individuals, my approach is to minimize going into enclosed indoor spaces and do so wearing an N95 mask. Once the Pfizer treatment pill becomes available, and the risk of serious illness even for the vulnerable becomes negligible, then I will libertate myself from my self- imposed imprisonment.
ReplyDeleteIn the meantime, I don’t think it reasonable to continue the mask mandate in most places where the majority are now rebelling against the mandates with some justification, based on the risk reward ratio for the vast majority and the attenuated efficacy of masks. All rules have their costs, e.g., the cost to kids of being subjected to virtual learning for so long that took a huge toll. I do take a much harder line on vaccines. If not vaccinated, you should be denied entrance to many public spaces. I appreciate my opinion might not be popular in Hudson, but that is OK. I have no further plans to run for office.
