Last week, the Dutchess County Democratic Committee endorsed incumbent Didi Barrett as the Democratic candidate to represent the 106th District in the NYS Assembly over Sam Hodge. Tomorrow night, Thursday, February 26, the Columbia County Democratic Committee holds its endorsement meeting at 7:00 p.m. The meeting takes place on Zoom. Yesterday, more the fifty elected officials in Columbia County, not all of whom are Democrats, issued a statement of support for Barrett. The statement, reproduced below, reads:
Didi has been, and continues to be, a staunch advocate for our communities in Columbia County, and has worked hard to deliver critical resources, funding, support, and advice to the municipalities we represent.
Local governments face many challenges, and during her time in office Didi has worked with us to understand and address the important issues affecting our communities. In these unprecedented times, her leadership, accessibility, and track record are vital assets to Columbia County, and we strongly support her re-election to the New York State Assembly.
Among those signing the statement are all five Hudson representatives on the Columbia County Board of Supervisors, Mayor Joe Ferris, Council president Margaret Morris, and four members of the Common Council. Didi cares about our local issues. Sam cares about national headlines.
ReplyDeleteFor a local seat, we need a local focus.
Didi is responsive to her constituents, whether blue or red. Sam famously does not even engage with locally elected representatives who are not in his Dem caucus.
Didi has not gone negative in the campaign.
Sam went negative and used a (false) Claire Cousins attack line.
If Sam can't even beat Matt Murrell... how is he going to do better in Albany... the grandaddy of political infighting and patronage.

The CoCo dems endorsing anyone but Didi would be the ultimate self-own. Little while ago I talked to one of the chief Dems in Greenport and he was just shaking his head over Hodge with clearly no love for him.
ReplyDeleteThe impression one gets is that Hodge is not a popular figure and it mirrors the impression he made on me whenever I did see him act in any capacity. There's zero promise anywhere to be found in his "platform".
If we are all being honest, Didi has shown zero leadership in the AD since she was elected. She has no leadership chops as far as I can tell having observed her actions (and failure to act) since she took her seat in 2012. Zero.
ReplyDeleteHowever, that said, she clearly cares about the issues affecting Columbia county residents. She’s neither poseur nor preener. And her staff are uniformly knowledgeable and helpful.
Hodge, on the other hand, is clearly interested in posing, focused on national matters. Another wannabe politician, desperate to lock on to the public tit for his own benefit. Do we need that?!
The producer is preferred to the performer. That said, I wish to hell that Didi would find her courage to address the truck route issue in the Hudson area — a problem that only a state-level rep can productively work to solve (and a problem she has studiously avoided for 14 years).
That is interesting, John!
DeleteNot an expert on New York political piping... but what specifically can Didi do to help us move the truck route?
Perhaps we can get her commitment to make this a focus of her next term, and work with Mayor Ferris and whoever else is needed?
Seems fair to me since Hodge and the County Dems did absolutely nothing to support Joe Ferris and other council candidates after they won their own party’s nomination. Hudson Dems were similar. Jackie for Sheriff seemed to be the only one they openly supported. I get waiting until the primaries were over, but sitting back and letting hand picked WFP candidates kneecap their voter chosen nominees is a bizarre strategy. I guess this is the natural progression of “one party” dominance. Everyone will never agree so schisms will form. I just wish the left/marxist folks would just run in their own legitimate third parties and be honest about what they stand for and stop duping low information “blue no matter who” voters. At least the DSA uses red imagery.
