What a Difference Sixty Years Makes
From time to time, I like to explore the archive of photos at PhotobyGibson.com. I was doing that today when I came across these three photographs of Koulos' Restaurant--the first taken in 1960, the second taken in 1964, the third in 1967.
I've known for a while that there had been a Koulos' Restaurant; I just didn't know where it had been located. Today, I decided to pay some attention to the photographs and figure it out. It turns out it was located at 522 Warren Street, right next door to what is now City Hall. (City Hall moved to 520 Warren Street in 1962.) This is what the building looks like today.

ReplyDeleteMy goodness! I didn't know the Koulos's had a restaurant. I do know that Tom Koulos - of cement plant fame - his brother had the Fresh Market - where one could by bananas and sometimes fresh fruit, vegetables and cigarettes in what was 'Uncle Sam's antiques shop, now a jewelry store in the middle of the 500 block, probably 533.

ReplyDeleteTom's brother (who ran the Fresh Market) was Nick Koulos. As I believe you previously mentioned on here, Tom was responsible for the Olympics Torch which will be lit again this year, since it is an Olympiad.
