Last night, Kathy Hochul and Antonio Delgado delivered victory speeches at the Capitale in lower Manhattan, where there is a glass ceiling. If you missed it last night, you can hear Hochul's victory speech here.
Republican Lee Zeldin has yet to concede. It has been reported that he indicated last night he intended to wait until all the votes had been counted. The votes in the governor's race now being reported in Columbia County, with affidavit and absentee ballots yet to be counted, are 15,613 for Hochul and Delgado; 13,438 for Zeldin and Alison Esposito.
Update: Lee Zeldin conceded at midday on Wednesday, twelve hours after Hochul delivered her victory speech.
In three races of interest to us--U.S. House, NYS Senate, and NYS Assembly--neither the NY Times nor the Times Union have so far reported winners. In the U.S. House, with 95 percent of the votes in Republican Marc Molinaro leads with 51.1 percent of the vote, and Democrat Josh Riley has 48.9 percent of the vote. Of the eleven counties that make up the 19th Congressional District, Riley won in three: Columbia, Ulster, and Tompkins, where Ithaca is located. In Columbia County, the vote so far is 15,598 for Riley and 13,263 for Molinaro.
Update: The Times Union is now identifying Marc Molinaro as the winner in the 19th Congressional District, with 95.4 percent of the votes counted.
A winner has not yet been reported in the race for NYS Senate in the 41st District. With 95 percent of the votes in, Democrat Michelle Hinchey has 52 percent of the votes and Republican Sue Serino has 48 percent. In Columbia County, Hinchey has 15,438 votes, and Serino has 13,285 votes.
Update: The New York Times is now identifying Michelle Hinchey as the winner.
In the race for NYS State Assembly, a winner has not yet been reported in the 106th District, but with 83 percent of the votes counted, Democrat Didi Barrett has 54 percent of the votes, and Republican Brandon Gaylord has 46 percent. In Columbia County, Barrett has 11,228 votes, and Gaylord has 8,132.
Update: On Wednesday, Brandon Gaylord conceded in a statement on Facebook, and Didi Barrett made a victory announcement, also on Facebook.
The New York State ballot proposition--the Clean Water, Clean Air, and Green Jobs Environmental Bond Act of 2022--now has 69 percent of the votes in favor and 31 opposed. In Columbia County the vote was 17,551 in favor and 10,194 opposed.
In Hudson, Proposition 1, amending ward boundaries to maintain wards of equal population, passed 1,328 to 383, and Proposition 2, increasing the annual funding for the Hudson Area Library from $250,000 to $350,000, passed 1,442 to 387.
