Something New in Riverfront Park
We've been expecting it since the first of February, when Mayor William Hallenbeck, apparently by mayoral fiat, named the southernmost section of Henry Hudson Riverfront Park "Rick's Point," for his predecessor in the office, Rick Scalera. In recent days, the sign, for which we've previously seen a visualization, has appeared in the park, shrouded by a green plastic tarp.
The visualization of the sign, a picture of which appeared in the Register-Star, made it seem that the new sign would have the same design as the signs created and placed in the park during Hudson's Quadricentennial celebration in 2009, but there appear to be slight differences beyond just the text.
Since the plan to erect the sign was announced at an event that took place at the Elks Lodge, perhaps the plan, so far unannounced, is to unveil the new sign next weekend, during the festivities surrounding the Elks' annual blowout, the Flag Day parade.

ReplyDeleteeddie brown is nothing ,if not consistent.That was a funny exchange.Eddie was going on about having a statue erected of Scalera,when they first named it "Ricks Point".He is Rick's biggest fan.

I mean that the city doesn't even pay attention to its own statutes, not to mention New York state laws.

A town hall/with no pols. meeting would be good,and you would be a good moderator.

ReplyDeleteA venue for people to meet and discuss things AS CITIZENS would do a lot for this city (I mean outside of the context of art openings).
Maybe for the first time in decades - or ever - the 1st Ward now has meetings sponsored by our aldermen at the old Washington Hose building (happily we already have star moderators in our aldermen).
Recently I attended an ecological discussion group in a meeting room at Crosswinds. I was amazed that the room existed. Are there other free venues? Beats me.
Unfortunately deep down we are something of a "herd of loners" in Hudson, and that's what leaves that vacuum that's immediately filled by the more aggressive politicos. From there the message from the top down never changes: "sit down, shut up, pay your damn taxes."
I couldn't have said it better myself.
