Coming to a Train Station Near You

Yesterday, USA Today reported about new trains with "world-class accommodations" that are being built by Amtrak: "Amtrak unveils new fleet of Airo trains and the 14 routes they will serve." According to the report, the new trains "can operate at speeds of up to 125 miles per hour . . . and provide spacious interiors, panoramic windows, plenty of legroom, double and single seats, dedicated outlets, USB ports and onboard Wi-Fi."

The Airo trains are expected to debut in 2026 on fourteen Amtrak routes, among them Empire Service from New York City to Niagara Falls, which passes through Hudson.

  1. At what point is a fast train going too fast? Soon enough, 125 mph will be too slow.

  2. Great. I look forward to those 125 mph trains interacting with Colarusso's gravel trucks at the Broad St. rail crossing.

    1. Haha, that's actually funny!

Then again, we know there are no fast Amtrak trains. There's one that on occasion cracks 40 mph and we call that one Acela.
