On his radio show on WGXC this afternoon, Tom DePietro revealed that he will be running again for Common Council president. If he is reelected, it will be his fifth term, which he says will be his last term.
In this election, DePietro is being challenged by First Ward Councilmember Margaret Morris, which is a bit of a change for him. In the past two elections, DePietro has run unopposed.

Laughable. We should have adopted the proposed charter at the last election. It includes term limits and would have prevented this Tom-foolery.
ReplyDeleteIf the rumors are true and Tom DP has purchased a home in Missouri with intent to leave Hudson in a few years then one should really consider his motivation to continue holding onto power for so long. Is it for the current and future residents of Hudson or is it for his legacy and ego? I don’t think we should continue to trust someone with the reins of our legislative body and its agenda to someone with no future stakes in the long term social and financial stability of our city. It’s hubris, plain and simple.
ReplyDeleteAs Tom eases into the life of greener southern pastures he should consider entering his George W. era and learn how to paint. Hopefully the voters will hand him the paint brush as a retirement gift.
this is the person who physically assaulted someone in a city building, is that correct?
ReplyDeletecan't wait to vote for Margaret...
Is DePietro a hoarder? The number of books piled in the background is astonishing. Wow!
ReplyDeleteIf one were to make a simple table of all the residents running for office and then fill in a column for "pays property taxes" and "has previously or currently been employed by a successful entity outside of Hudson, or created a business in Hudson or elsewhere" it almost perfectly sorts for competency and corruption.
ReplyDeleteBonus points, overlay tax liens.
On this table Tom would be double dinged, Kamal triple, and you would see why Kamal is not really running for mayor, but for a household income of $150k plus... which he will lose when he is no longer mayor. This is how Africa is broken and corruption happens. Politicians hold on to power not because they care about the people, but to afford their life and status.
Is it "paternalistic" to want more for Kamal? To believe that he can use his talents better in the private sector, or at a state/national level public sector job?
Kamal - you can achieve more and have greater impact... expand the radius of your life, if only briefly.
See: https://www.nateliason.com/blog/local-maxima
You are like Truman Burbank (played by Jim Carrey) in the Truman Show.
Why should Kamal be the first full-time salaried mayor of Hudson, when the population has shrunk and the job is not technically even full-time?
Peter / Margaret / Trixie / Dom / Vicky - if they lose their elections or do not stand again, they will still have long term "skin in the game" in Hudson.

Tom you have my households votes!
ReplyDeleteHi Sick and Tired -
DeleteI hope you feel healthy and energized this weekend.
Can you please share why you think Tom would be a good CC President for another term?
Sincere question... Tom does not engage with anyone that he disagrees with or who might be critical so we need his stans / fans to make the case.
Margaret, all the way!
ReplyDeleteNO ONE for council "president"!!!!!
ReplyDeleteEven the title is awful, bloats anyone's ego. Rename it CHAIRPERSON!
We shouldn't be voting for a council "president," the council should be. So don't do it. Don't continue to encourage what is obviously flawed and WRONG.
