Early voting begins next Saturday, October 25. Meanwhile, attention to Hudson's mayoral race is intensifying. Interviews with the three mayoral candidates are the above-the-fold feature in today's Register-Star.
Among the things to be learned from the interview with Joe Ferris is that be is committed to hiring a full-time city planner and improving safety, both for pedestrians and for drivers, at ten of the city's most dangerous intersections. The interview with Kamal Johnson reveals, now that Depot Lofts is proving not to be the panacea for Hudson's housing issues it was promised to be and Mill Street Lofts is tied up in court, he is now promoting State Street Lofts, the second building proposed by Kearney, which Johnson says "we need online immediately." The interview with Lloyd Koedding confirms that he is a devoted Scientologist who is currently unhoused and who decided to run for mayor instead of suing the City for perceived violations of his civil rights.
Also today, on Instragram, Greenport Wail shares the news that "Greenport Is Kamal County."
Kamal is a nice guy, and well intentioned, but the last thing Hudson needs is another gigantic, warehouse style apartment building. Unfortunately, the only idea the Kamal crew can come up with is cramming apartment buildings into every corner of Hudson and importing more people and cars. Better to work on planting more trees, improving the conditions for existing residents and regulating rents. God forbid you step on the toes of landlords, enough already.
