Details of the Upcoming Visit of the Seneca Chief

On Monday, October 6, Gossips published a post about the bicentennial celebration of the opening of Erie Canal, which happened in October 1825, and the anticipated visit to Hudson of the replica Seneca Chief, which is re-creating the inaugural voyage of the original Seneca Chief from Buffalo to New York City.

The Seneca Chief will be in Hudson on Monday, October 20, docking at the Hudson waterfront at 3:00 p.m. Today, City Hall released more details of the visit.

While docked, the vessel becomes a floating museum that allows you to step aboard to explore re-created cabins, view historic artifacts, and engage with interactive exhibits that illuminate the canal's cultural, economic, and environmental significance--including the contributions of indigenous communities. On shore, Buffalo Maritime Center will host special events, educational programs, and hands-on wooden boatbuilding activities for all ages. Programming will run from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. that day.
After arrival, a ceremony celebrating the planting of a White Pine tree on Promenade Hill will take place around 3:30 p.m. This will serve as a symbolic tribute to the Haudenosaunee--a commitment to a sustainable future--and celebrate the communities along the canal and the river.
In his report to the Common Council last night, Rob Perry, superintendent of Public Works, indicated that the White Pine tree has already been planted on Promenade Hill.
