News of the Ferry Street Bridge

At the Public Works Board meeting on Thursday, Justin Weaver, mayor's aide, shared the news that the new Ferry Street Bridge is expected to be completed by Memorial Day weekend. The picture below was taken this evening, from the vantage point of the entrance to the boat launch parking lot.

For my part, I'm looking forward to finding out what it's like to descend the slope from the new bridge and hang a left to ascend the steep slope to Water Street in order to get to Riverfront Park. The vertical clearance of the original bridge was 19.5 feet. The required clearance for the new bridge is 23 feet. As a consequence, the ascent from Front Street and the descent to Water Street and the boat launch are significantly steeper. I may just continue to access the park using the Broad Street route over the railroad tracks.

  1. Let's hope that the new telephone pole in the middle of the sidewalk is not part of the finished product.
