News of the Second Street Stairs

At today's meeting of the Public Works Board, mayor's aide Justin Weaver reported that the Second Street stairs, leading down from Allen Street to Cross Street, will finally be getting proper railings next week. For several months now, the stairs have had these temporary wood railings of questionable usefulness.

The good news is tempered by this bad news: The stairs will not be accessible from Monday, June 9, until Friday, June 13, while the railings are installed.

  1. πŸ‘€ Is Kamal still in Albany?

It seems that Justin is going to all these meetings...

If you have to delegate core meetings, announcements, and decisions in a city of 5k, 2square miles, and $20m in budget... then the City bureaucracy is too big, you do not have a handle on things, or you are not engaged.

Also - where is Michelle... she was not at the Mill Street Planning Board meeting on the largest proposed housing development in the City.

In the private sector these guys would not keep their jobs if they do not do their jobs.

    Why are we tolerating this?

    1. As the ADA Coordinator for the City, Justin Weaver is an ex officio member of the Public Works Board. He regularly reports to the board on the City's efforts to achieve ADA compliance and also on the progress of the "Hudson Connects" DRI project. (The Second Street stairs are part of that final DRI project.)

  2. πŸ™ Ah... well in that case, thank you Justin for your ADA work!  And thank you Carole for pointing out Justin's ADA role and DRI link.

πŸ˜” Broader point still stands... Kamal should keep the residents informed about the bridge delay, about these stairs, about road repairs.... he has time to throw shade in FB comments all day but there is no single up-to-date source of information on City developments.

Kamal is a nice guy and good social communicator in person, he could have been a pro after 6 years on the job.

🀣 Ironically, if Tom and Kamal wanted to (theoretically) decrease Gossips' readership (the thorn in their side), they could arguably simply communicate better.
