A friend from my days in educational publishing (who, incidentally, does not live in New York) brought to my attention this article which appeared on Friday in Education Week: "Trump Admin. Gives New York 10 Days to End Its Ban on Native American Mascots." The following is the lede from the article:
A New York state policy prohibiting the use of Native American school mascots violates civil rights laws, and the state must rescind it or face the possibility of losing federal education funds, the U.S. Department of Education's office for civil rights argued in a letter issued Friday.
