Good News for the Public Square

It hasn't even been two weeks since Friends of the Public Square (FOPS) and the Columbia County Chamber of Commerce launched their partnership to encourage local employers to support the restoration of Seventh Street Park, a.k.a. the Public Square. Since then, FOPS has been announcing contributions made by local businesses, and one family, on its Facebook page.

Earlier this evening, the Register-Star reported that Congressman Josh Riley was successful in securing $250,000 in federal funding for the park restoration: "U.S. Rep Josh Riley secures $250K for Hudson's 7th Street Park renovations."

  1. Good job CCCC & Josh Riley

Imagine if we took the ~$850k City of Hudson Youth Center Budget (which serves less than 50 Hudson youth year round) and simply tackle one City park a year.

All 5000 residents will be better served. And the HCSD $40k per student budget can pay for students, alongside the new $7m Kite's Nest development.

It would be botanical central and give Melbourne, London, and Central Park "garden city" vibes.

  3. The only good news will come when all the work is done, the orange cones are all removed, the homeless aren't sleeping and drinking on the benches and the fountain isn't depressing to look at or be near. Everything else is just news.
