Hudson's History of Lawlessness

We know the governor of New York intervened twice in the past to crack done on illegal activity in Hudson: in 1922, to halt the production and sale of alcohol during Prohibition; in 1950, to shut down the city's brothels. Who knew that in 1925 Hudson got the attention of Governor Al Smith for another illegal activity? That time, it was for betting on baseball.

Today, the Times Union published this news item, originally printed on August 2, 1925.

  2. How times have changed... today the Hudson Police Department is arguably the most professional and efficient of all departments. Certainly judging by their records access and responsiveness.

One wonders what is happening in Hudson today... that future generations will look back on as unwise or illegal.

p.s. Political and sports betting is now mostly legal... we tried to get the Hudson mayoral race on the leading betting platform to see the wisdom of the crowd: https://kalshi.com

Sadly local municipal elections are not yet allowed. Not yet...
