Ear to the Ground

Gossips has learned recently that 350 Power Avenue, the location of HAVE, Inc., has been sold, and it is expected that it will soon be the new site of Twin County Recovery Services, the facility currently located at 47 North Fifth Street.

It is not known what will happen with the block of buildings now occupied by Twin County, but an often overlooked fact about these houses is that they are listed in the National Register of Historic Places.

This row of six Italianate houses was built as worker housing shortly after the Civil War by a local builder named Freeman Coons. The restoration of the houses, which had survived intact and unaltered, was undertaken by Housing Resources of Columbia County in the late 1990s. The restoration was completed in 2002, and the houses were listed in the National Register in 2003.

There is information on Wikipedia about all the National Register-listed properties in New York. Click here to read more about the houses at 37-47 North Fifth Street.
