Good News for the City's Infrastructure

Last night's informal Common Council meeting was adjourned prematurely, before Rob Perry had a chance to present the monthly report from the Department of Public Works. That was unfortunate, because it contained some good news. The City of Hudson has been awarded a NYS Water Infrastructure Improvement (WIIA) grant of more than $14 million ($14,150,000 to be exact) to improve stormwater separation and mitigate combined sewer overflows (CSOs) into the Hudson River during major rain events.

  1. Go Rob!

Making it rain, as it were... 💧

This grant was not only competitive, but Hudson also got the largest grant in the "Capital Region".

I wonder if this grant will cover the entire project cost?

  2. Wow - great news. We were just the guinea pigs for phase 1 on Union St and they did a great job. My basement has never been so dry!

  3. Holding my happiness: Will this affect Underhill pond? When I emailed him about it a few years back he had said this is what would be necessary, but that that it would take ~10M to do it. Now that the money is here, I'm hoping this separation cleans up all of Hudson's bodies of water? Not just the Hudson?

  4. Great question Print Spinster.

Imagine if we had a City Manager (or just hands-on Mayor that focussed on potholes and residents, and not national or regional issues) there could be a user-friendly city blog where these announcements are made, and then a simple Q&A section where we can get these answers.

@Kamal - the residents who pay you $85k per year and your Mayor's Aide $50k per year, would love get these sort of questions answered.

Thank you again Rob! The bridge is also looking like it is coming together nicely.
