Approaching the Haul Road

Today, on Route 9G, truck crossing signs, with lights, were installed to warn drivers that they were approaching the point where heavy trucks might be crossing the road.

Presumably something triggers the lights to start flashing when a gravel truck on the haul road is approaching the highway.

Unfortunately, for drivers heading north on Route 9G, the signage warning of trucks is obscured by the sign announcing they are entering the City of Hudson.

  1. You couldn’t make it up! From yellow curb paint to signs hidden by sign, Hudson knows how to waste a dollar

  2. More clutter to be distracted by and unable to read at 30, 40 or 50 mph. How long before the first collision?

  3. I expect there will be a tragic accident involving gravel trucks in five years or less. And the blame will fall directly on our chickenshit Planning Board. ~ PJ

  4. Would love to know who actually paid for these to be installed.

  5. Has HPD started pulling over trucks headed into the city on 9G yet? You know, to weigh them, ask drivers where they are headed and make them to turn around if they're not delivering in town (and hope they don't return). Wasn't that what Margaret Morris and the truck route committee came up with to solve part of our truck route problem? Let me guess: HPD wasn't interested. Talk about a wasted effort.
What would be poetic is if a tractor trailer hoping to pass through Hudson were to slam into a Colarusso gravel truck trying to cross 9G. I hope it doesn't happen, but it sure would make a great headline: Serious two tractor trailer collision at intersection of two truck routes closes Hudson's entrance and exit for hours. Driver on 9G claims that the roadside yellow caution lights never came on before gravel truck began crossing 9G. "What the hell is a 53-foot gravel truck crossing a state route for if there isn't a real intersection or stop light? This didn't have to happen. I could have been killed. Did the DOT and the City of Hudson really approve this so-called truck crossing? I hope not!" he said.
