Happening Next Week

Columbia County's observance of the nation's semiquincentennial continues on October 8 through 11 with three days of history brought to life. Jonathan Kruk, known for transforming history into lively, theatrical storytelling, presents three interactive, family-friendly performances in period dress that bring to life Columbia County's Revolutionary people, places, and turning points.


Thursday, October 8
Tales of the Chancellor and Revolution
Meet Chancellor Robert R. Livingston through Kruk's storytelling and learn about New York leading up the the Revolution and Livingston's part in composing the Declaration of Independence. The event takes place at 5:30 p.m. in the auditorium at Montgomery C. Smith School, 215 Harry Howard Avenue, the building originally known as Chancellor Livingston High School.

Saturday, October 10
Revolutionary Columbia County!
Hear stories of the burning of Clermont and other Patriot homes, Benedict Arnold and Burgoyne, Daniel Nimham, and Henry Van Shaak. Live music will be provided by folk balladeer Linda Russel. The event takes place from 1:00 t0 2:00 p.m. at the Vanderpoel House in Kinderhook.

Sunday, October 11
The Burning of Clermont
Relive the British destruction of Clermont in 1777 through a dramatic recounting of those trying times. The event, with musical accompaniment by Steve Kelman, takes place from 1:00 to 2:oo p.m. at the historic Livingston Church in Clermont.
