Just Do It

Back in November, Sheena Salvino and Branda Maholtz of the Hudson Development Corporation launched a Business Climate Survey to help them understand what's driving the economy in Hudson. Four months later, they still don't have enough data to make the survey meaningful, and the reason they don't is that not enough people have completed the survey.

So, if you have a business in Hudson or are self employed, please complete the survey, which can be accessed here, and do so before the end of the day on Sunday, March 15.

  1. It would be naive to suppose that the HDC, a non-public corporation, is not one and the same as the City of Hudson.

In that case, the City of Hudson wants all your personal information - name, address, email, phone number - before answering the following:

"Over the past 12 months, did your company's revenues: increase greatly ...?

"How would you rate your company's financial situation today?

"Are you planning an expansion project within the next year that would include building purchase and/or expansion; building renovation ..." (If you chose yes, what is the project and the approximate cost of your project?)

"Approximately, what percentage of your business transactions are done on line?

    "Current number of employees.

"Do you have immediate or future plans to move all or part of your firm's operations from your present location?"

Do they really expect self-identified business owners to surrender this kind of information?

In its failure to grasp the true spirit of the entrepreneur, I'd say that the HDC reflects government obtuseness remarkably well.

  2. Give the survey to the Ginsbergs - they see to be working the system quite well.
