Of Interest

On Monday, Assemblymember Didi Barrett posted this on her Facebook page.

The link is to the Gossips post published on June 12, which reports on the plan to submit a letter to the NYS Department of Transportation requesting that the Route 9G/23B truck route be eliminated and trucks more than 48 feet in length be prohibited from entering Hudson unless they are making a local delivery within the city limits, not the post published in June 22, which reports that the Common Council tabled the resolution authorizing that letter to be sent.

It was Barrett, of course, who secured $100,000 in state funding in 2019 to conduct an origin and destination study of truck traffic in Hudson with the goal of finding a solution to the major safety and quality of life issues caused by trucks passing through Hudson on their way to someplace else.

  1. Is she any help?
Question: who will prohibit trucks from coming thru town when they are not making deliveries? How will anyone know if a truck is actually making a delivery? Will HPD need to follow trucks to see if they are delivering or just trying to sneak through town? The last thing we need to add to HPD's list of responsibilities is truck patrol.

  2. Getting Colarusso off our waterfront and off Columbia St. would be a huge step in the right direction. Their gravel operation is imposing huge downside impacts on Hudson, while providing zero upside for the City.

  3. While it's great that Didi got the money for the study, she needs to take a more active role. Just posting that Margaret Morris is "trying to find solutions and bring stakeholders to the table" is nothing more than words. She needs to personally get the Supervisors from Hudson, Greenport, Claverack and any other municipality involved to sit down and finally hash this out. Get the DOT involved as well. Otherwise, Margaret's best intentions or not, this merry-go-round is going to continue to spin,

  4. Do we know why the authorization was tabled and what needs to happen for the Council to vote on this?

    1. Why don't you just read the post on the June 22 meeting that reported about it? Here's the link, again: https://gossipsofrivertown.blogspot.com/2023/06/common-council-updates-part-3.html
