Ear to the Ground

Now that the pandemic is over, a question often asked is, "Will Helsinki Hudson ever reopen?" This doesn't answer the question, but it is relevant. Word is that Galvan is purchasing or has already purchased the entire Helsinki complex.

It's been suggested that Pottersville was more fun than Bedford Falls. It's only a matter of time before we find out if Galvanville is more fun than Hudson.

  1. I hope Galvan figures out a way to turn it into a fully tax-exempt property. Another non-profit "events space" on Columbia Street that will never get built, perhaps?

  2. Oh Carole, how generous of you to leave that as a question, when the answer is already written in the brick and mortar and in our civic souls. . . Hope springs eternal!

  3. I expect I'll be in my next life or the one after that by the time it becomes anything.

  4. So sad! We were fortunate to enjoy several memorable music features there. A perfect setting for them. Don't understand how a venue as well imagined and invested couldn't sustain itself. It certainly was popular. A friend's daughter had her wedding reception here. Internal personal problems perhaps? Did they try to sell the business to another private company like themselves? We noticed the restaurant changed pre-pandemic and wasn't as good. Likely a hint there were some issues.

    1. Staffing was an issue pre-pandemic…I’m sure attracting and retaining quality staff is practically impossible now.

  5. A big loss for Hudson to lose Club Helsinki, it was a superb venue, for restaurant, bar, music, and fun events, even tango classes and a tango milonga (party) upstairs. Who could ever forget the Christmas parties and Bob Dylan's birthday party. Good luck to Debbie and Mark, however, you will be much missed. "Pottersville" oh dear!
