This week, which starts with Juneteenth, includes the summer solstice (June 21) and the longest day of the year. As summer officially begins, here is what's happening.
- On Tuesday, June 20, Hudson Community Development and Planning Agency (HCDPA) holds its monthly meeting at 4:30 p.m. The meeting is a hybrid, taking place in person at the Central Fire Station, 77 North Seventh Street, and on Zoom. Click here to join the meeting remotely.
- Also on Tuesday, June 20, the Common Council holds its regular monthly meeting at 6:00 p.m. The meeting begins with a public hearing on the amendments to Article XIV of the city code, "Community Character Preservation." For the regular meeting that follows the public hearing, it was expected that the letter to the NYS Department of Transportation requesting the elimination of Route 9G/23B as a truck route would be discussed, but so far it is not included on the agenda that appears on the city website. The meeting is a hybrid, taking place in person at the Central Fire Station, 77 North Seventh Street, and on Zoom. Click here to join the meeting remotely.
- On Wednesday, June 21, the Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA) meets at 6:00 p.m. On the agenda is the amended use variance for the hotel proposed for the Terry-Gillette mansion, 601 Union Street, the former Elks Lodge. The application for an amended use variance has been before the ZBA for several months now, and there may be a decision on Wednesday. The meeting takes place in person only at the Central Fire Station, 77 North Seventh Street.
- On Friday, June 23, the Historic Preservation Commission (HPC) holds its second meeting of the month at 10:00 a.m. Included in the meeting is a public hearing on the changes proposed for the Emanuel Lutheran Church building at 18-20 South Sixth Street. The proposed changes involve painting the building, which in 2010 was covered in vinyl siding, white and removing the twelve stained glass windows on the south and north facades of the building. For the first time and only time Gossips can remember, notice of the HPC public hearing is featured on the City of Hudson website. The public hearing and subsequent meeting are hybrid, taking place in person at the Central Fire Station, 77 North Seventh Street, and on Zoom. Click here to join the meeting remotely.
