Back in 2015, Gossips published a post about Bert Geer Phillips, the artist born and raised in Hudson who, with Ernest Blumenschein and four others, founded the Taos Society of Artists in 1915: "Hudson and Taos." More than a century later, the connection between Hudson and Taos continues.
At the Planning Board meeting on Tuesday, Lance Helfert and Gary Mead from Casetta, the group that wants to create a boutique hotel in the Terry-Gillette mansion, formerly the Elks Lodge, spoke of their experience developing a hotel in Taos, New Mexico, a town they feel shares many similarities with Hudson. Mead noted that the food and beverage partner for the Taos hotel had previously owned a restaurant in Hudson.
Although Mead didn't mention the name of the food and beverage partner, I figured it could only be Zak Pelaccio, creator of Fish & Game and of BackBar here in Hudson, who now has a wine bar and cafe in Taos called Corner Office. A little investigation on the website of the Taos hotel, which is called Hotel Willa, confirmed I was right.
Would you like to visit Taos this spring?!
