Of Interest

Readers who follow thehudsonwail on Instagram may also be aware of its imitator: greenportwail, which describes itself as "The real 12534, NOT Hudson." It's interesting to see who greenportwail thinks is celebrating the Planning Board decision on the Colarusso haul road.

  1. I really feel sorry for you. To live a life where you can only feel important by talking about others. I would never celebrate a decision that divides the community. This picture is from the 40 under 40 event. An event that we had a blast at celebrating leaders across our county. This pathetic I encourage you to take a break from blogging get around actual people that care for you, indulge in the holiday season and or the New Year. I can't wait to spend the weekend watching the Tim Allen Santa movies. Find something that works for you. I hope you really find happiness in 2024.

    1. Don’t you make a living announcing a yearly list of 40 under 40? Isn’t that you just talking about other people? Meanwhile, the roads deteriorate, the sewer system is an impediment to development …

Oh, and writing about matters of public importance is a time-honored aspect of American life.

    2. What is 'pathetic" is an elected official who can't write a coherent sentence and attacks an extremely respected member of the community. Shame on you mayor.

  2. What a bizarre rabbit hole those link are. I thought Yeh was under a court order to stay off the internet. Nevertheless, I do think this raises the question on how do our elected officials stand on, not only the haul road, but the future of the waterfront in general. A return to industrial use? Or, modern development and recreation, like the other article about Ben Fain's plans posted on this blog? This is a big deal for the citizens of Hudson, the ones that can actually vote them in and out of office, not the residents of Greenport, Chatham or Kinderhook. I get the need to respect the independence of the Planning Board while they deliberate. But they do appoint the Planning Board, so it would be helpful for voters to be informed about our elected officials vision for the future. Now that the application has been decided, it would be great if any local journalist pose these questions to Hudson's mayor, councillors, and supervisors. Inquiring minds want to know.

  3. The really odd thing about the 7-year Colarusso review is that at no point did anyone on the Planning Board ask, "So what's the upside for the City in having a gravel dump and industrial highway on our waterfront next to a park?"

Given the many obvious downsides of the gravel operation, you would think that the Planning Board would try to identify some upsides before granting approval. The root issue here is incredibly low community self-esteem.
