Today, the Preservation League of New York State announced the recipients of its annual Pillar of New York Awards. For more than a quarter of a century, the Preservation League has presented the Pillar of New York Award to those who have demonstrated a deep understanding of the value of New York's historic resources by taking extraordinary actions to protect, preserve, and promote those assets. This year, four people are being recognized and applauded for their unwavering commitment to New York's cultural and architectural heritage. Among the four are two Hudsonians: Melissa Auf der Maur and Tony Stone.
Melissa and Tony co-founded Basilica Hudson in 2010, a reclaimed, solar powered, 1880s industrial factory turned multidisciplinary art center in Hudson, NY. In 2019, they completed the rehabilitation of another historic Hudson building--River House Project is a fossil fuel-free film, media, and design hub within a 1903 schoolhouse. That restoration earned the couple an Excellence in Historic Preservation Award from the Preservation League in 2020.
The award recipients will be honored at an event to take place on Thursday, March 14, in the Rainbow Room at Rockefeller Center.
Good for them. Congratulations
